The Consumer Electronic Show (CES) of 2023 was last week. It was a week-long event of different brands showcasing their new electronics and technologies that will be available for the average consumer! Some of these have release dates later this year, while others won’t be available for another year or two. A few others have no set release date.
The topic of conversation this year at CES included cars, AI, and laptops. There was some showcasing of new televisions and projectors, but the focus was on everything else. The future is here. Are you ready for it?
In this week’s blog, we’re going to keep it simple. We’ll start with a couple of the newest TV and projector releases. While many were not front and center for the show, there were still a lot of fun releases. Next week, we’ll talk about the smart home and AI releases.
Samsung S95C and S90C QD-OLED
Samsung’s QD-LED combines the darkness of OLED with the brightness of QLED. They’ll come in three sizes: 55-inch, 65-inch, and the new 77-inch. Both also have an upgraded refresh rate of 144Hz and include the Samsung Gaming Hub. The main difference is the way their body looks. The S95C has a slimmer design than S90C because that one has a One Connect Box — a box that minimizes cable clutter by functioning as a hub for connecting AV components while using a single cord to interface with the panel.
LG G3 OLED evo and M3-series OLED
LG has made the claim that the G3 OLED is capable of going 70% brighter than traditional OLEDs. Popular blogs such as Digital Trends have pointed out that brightness is definitely there. This was made possible by Micro Lens Array technology — a layer of tiny lenses added to the panel to better focus the light emitted by the OLEDs. This TV will come in four sizes: 55-, 65-, 77-, and 83-inch.
The M3 series is something to keep an eye on. This TV offers a “wireless” solution. The only cord to the TV is the power cord. The Zero Connect box can supposedly be placed up to 30 feet away from the display without the loss of 4K/120Hz signals. Dolby Vision and Atmos are also supported. As of the publishing of this post, there seem to only be three sizes for this TV: 77-, 83-, and 97-inch!
Lastly, LG is releasing new C-, B-, and A-series models.
Hisense L9H Laser TV
This “TV” is probably one of the more interesting “TVs” showcased at CES. It’s an upgrade from the previous L9 Laster “TVs”. Why the quotes? Simply put, it’s an ultra-short-throw projector and an ambient light-rejecting screen paired together more than it is a regular television. (Neat!) It includes Dolby Vision, access to all your streaming apps, AirPlay 2, and more. You can pick a screen size of 100 inches or 120 inches.
They’ve released a few more TVs such as the ULED UX series.
Wait a second. Where’s Sony? Well, Sony didn’t announce any new TVs this year. They focused on PlayStation and… a car. Does that mean there won’t be any no Sony TVs this year? No. They may announce some later, but until then, can we interest you in a new Sony car?
Hisense Projectors
Outside of their Laser TV, they’ve also released a few regular projectors. The C1 Cube is a mini-projector with autofocus and auto keystone correction making it easy to set up nearly anywhere. There are also speakers built-in. The PL1 is a laser projector that is best described as an entry-level home theater projector with its 4K and 2100 ANSI lumens. Lastly, their PX2-Pro is an upgrade to their PX1, an already great projector. The brightness is a little better (2400 lumens), the blacks are a little blacker, and it includes Google TV and the 2.1 HDMI port.
Samsung Projectors
The new 8K Premiere ultra short throw projector offers a new incredibly high resolution and has a 150-inch screen size. As of right now, it’s rumored to have 4000 lumens, but we’ll see. Samsung upgraded their portable projector, the Freestyle. It now includes their Gaming Hub. The coolest update is the Smart Edge Blending. You can connect two Freestyle projectors next to each other to produce an ultra-wide 21:9 or 15:15 projection.
JVC Projectors
JVC has announced its newest laser projector, LX-NZ30. This projector was made with gamers in mind. They offer latency as low as 6.25ms – the lowest lag on any gaming projector. It also offers a 3300-lumen laser light source. It will come in black and white.
LG, Leica, BenQ, and more have released some projectors as well.
